Establish a lawn or restore natural grasses with cost-effective hydroseeding

Did you know you can achieve a beautiful green Montana lawn without laying sod or faking it with turf?

Hydroseeding is a great option when working with a tighter budget, as well as for people who would prefer a more natural approach to their lawn. Hydroseeding can also support landscape reclamation, as it brings back natural grasses to a site that has been disturbed.

What is hydroseeding?

Hydroseeding is a planting process that uses a mix of seed, mulch, and other natural ingredients that help the seed to grow efficiently and naturally. Often, it’s used as a replacement for sod or sowing dry seed. Hydroseeding helps with erosion control, and is very efficient in natural reclamation.

New lawn

An alternative to sod, hydroseed is highly effective for growing new lawns. It is slower, but can grow beautifully if cared for properly after installation.

Reclamation

Working with ground that has been disturbed by construction or other factors? Hydroseeding helps to regenerate new growth and bring the natural grasses back.

Natural grass areas

Are you seeking a more natural look? Not everyone loves the look of  sod, and would prefer their yard to appear less human-made. Or, someone might want sod in one area and natural grasses beyond the sod. Hydroseeding does the trick!

 Frequently Asked Hydroseeding Questions

How much does hydroseeding cost?

The best answer: less than sod! Hydroseeding price range depends (like everything) on the scope of the project. We can give you a better estimate after seeing your yard!

Are there different types of hydroseeding material?

Yes! There are certain types of grasses that grow better in different areas of the valley. Depending on where you are located, we can mix the right amount of different seeds to give you the most natural look for your area.

How long does it take for my hydroseeding to “take” and become a lawn?

The answer depends on a few factors, and also depends on how well you maintain irrigation on your hydroseed. Assuming your irrigation system is watering your lawn efficiently, you will start to see seeds sprout within a few days. After about 1-2 months, your hydroseed will start to look exactly like a lawn where sod was laid.

When is the best time to hydroseed my lawn?

The best time to hydroseed a lawn is either in the spring or the fall, when temperatures are cooler. However, a perfect lawn can be accomplished with hydroseed throughout the summer, as long as it is properly watered and maintained.

How often should I water my hydroseed?

Newly hydroseeded lawns do require more water than a normal lawn, but less water than a newly installed sod lawn requires. After hydroseed is sprayed, you will want the hydroseed to dry out completely before turning the sprinklers on. After turning the sprinklers on, you will want the ground to stay moist but no pooling of water should occur.

How long should I wait to walk on my hydroseeded lawn?

You will want to wait until the first mow of your lawn to walk on it after hydroseeding. With optimum conditions, the first mow will occur about 4-5 weeks after the hydroseed was applied.
